The foundation is a public law foundation with legal capacity pursuant to Section 1 para 1 sentence 1 EntsorgFondsG. The foundation was established on June 16, 2017, pursuant to Section 1 para 1 sentence 2 EntsorgFondsG, upon the entry into force of the Act on the Reorganization of Responsibility in Nuclear Waste Management (BGBI. 2017, I, p. 114, 1676), latest amendment by Article 1 of the Act of June 25, 2021 (BGBl. I p. 2137). The statutes are published in the Federal Gazette (announcement of July 5, 2017, BAnz AT 28.07.2017 B1), latest amendment by the announcement of January 17, 2023 (BAnz AT 17.01.2023 B1).
The registered office of the foundation is Berlin.
