The foundation is a public law foundation with legal capacity pursuant to Section 1 para 1 sentence 1 EntsorgFondsG. The foundation was established on June 16, 2017, pursuant to Section 1 para 1 sentence 2 EntsorgFondsG, upon the entry into force of the Act on the Reorganization of Responsibility in Nuclear Waste Management (BGBI. 2017, I, p. 114, 1676), latest amendment by Article 1 of the Act of June 25, 2021 (BGBl. I p. 2137). The statutes are published in the Federal Gazette (announcement of July 5, 2017, BAnz AT 28.07.2017 B1), last amended by the announcement of April 30, 2025 (BAnz AT 15.05.2025 B1).
The registered office of the foundation is Berlin.
